POSTPONED — Lars Anderson 10/13
We are thrilled to welcome Lars Anderson back to Page & Palette!
On WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13th at 6:30PM, the acclaimed author and former Sports Illustrated journalist will sign and discuss his new biography, BRADY. Anderson will be in-conversation with Daily Mississippian sportswriter and reporter Wilson Engeriser.
Based on years of in-depth reporting and sources from every corner of his life, BRADY is the definitive biography of the life, career, and retirement of one of football’s most legendary figures, Tom Brady.
Anderson digs deep behind the headlines to provide a richly detailed answer to one of the most vexing questions in sports: Who, really, is Tom Brady?
We look forward to seeing you at P&P!
“This book is what happens when one of the greatest sports writers of our time steps up to chronicle one of the icons in American sports. For those of us who have always wanted more of the story behind THE quarterback, this is it.”
ABOUT THE BOOK
New York Times bestselling author and former Sports Illustrated journalist Lars Anderson plunges into Tom Brady’s childhood to discover the origins of what Brady later described as his “sickness”: his category-five obsession with the game. The obsession dictated every choice Brady made, from what foods he ate to how he managed his day-to-day schedule to how he viewed his role as father to his three children and husband to supermodel Gisele Bündchen.
From more than 350 original interviews with people who know the quarterback on and off the field, Anderson paints a detailed psychological portrait of Tom Brady, a self-described loner whose life is defined by discipline, resilience, a fascination with preparation, an intolerance for wasted time, and a relentless pursuit of the extraordinary. What he finds is a man riddled with contradiction, defined by both a prolific career of unmatched success on the field and the agonizing cost of greatness in his personal life.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lars Anderson is a New York Times bestselling author of twelve books, including The Storm and the Tide and The Mannings. Five of his books have been optioned for movies.
A twenty-year veteran of Sports Illustrated, Anderson wrote more than two dozen cover stories for the magazine. He has been a senior writer at Bleacher Report, which published his 2017 story “The Death of a Teenage Quarterback,” winner of the Associated Press Sports Editors award for the nation’s top feature. His work has appeared in the Best American Sports Writing series, and in 2025, the University of Alabama honored Anderson with the Clarence E. Cason Award in Nonfiction Writing, the school’s top literary honor, which has been given to twenty-six past winners of the Pulitzer Prize.
A senior instructor at Alabama in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media, Anderson earned his master’s degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with his children, Lincoln, Autumn, and Farrah.
POSTPONED — Wyatt Waters
We will be rescheduling Wyatt Waters author signing! Please stay tuned for future date.
Stop by between 1-3PM to grab a coffee or a glass of wine and get a copy of The Watercolor Road Natchez signed. Come chat with the author and discover your next great read!
ABOUT THE BOOK
The Watercolor Road Natchez continues Wyatt’s journey of capturing place through plein air watercolor—this time through the layered beauty, history, architecture, and everyday life of Natchez.
Painted on location, this collection reflects Wyatt’s visceral connection to one of Mississippi’s most storied river communities. From grand homes and quiet streets to downtown corners, river views, local landmarks, and the rhythm of daily life, Wyatt’s paintings offer an expressive look at Natchez as a place shaped by cultural legacy, memory, and a continuing sense of possibility.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A prolific painter, renowned watercolorist Wyatt Waters has painted about as long as he has been alive — starting with lessons before he was school-aged until earning a master’s degree in art at Mississippi College, where he received the Belleman award for art and creative writing. In his unrelenting quest of becoming a better painter, Wyatt draws on the influences of masters such as John Singer-Sargent, Edward Hopper, and William Hollingsworth.
Waters works solely on location – preferring the challenges that both plein air and watercolor present. His philosophy is “if it is interesting to see, it can be a painting.” This approach has led to the recent release of The Watercolor Road | Painting and Writing through the American South, as well as the publication of seven very successful books including Another Coat of Paint, Painting Home, An Oxford Sketchbook, and in collaboration with Mississippi restauranteur, Robert St. John, A Southern Palate, Southern Seasons, An Italian Palate, and A Mississippi Palate. Additionally, Wyatt can be found on Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s television series, Palate to Palette, with St. John — a traveling culinary and art series set in Italy and Mississippi. He has also illustrated covers and interiors for 17 other books through various publishers.
A recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, the Mississippi Institute for Arts and Letters (An Oxford Sketchbook), and the Mississippi Library Association’s Special Award (A Southern Palate), Wyatt and his work have been featured in numerous magazines such as Plein Air, American Artist, American Watercolor, and Arts & Antiques.
Ever the teacher, Wyatt conducts workshops throughout the Southeast, as well as in Italy and the Caribbean. He served two years as a faculty member for Plein Air South — an annual gathering of regional plein air organizations and painting groups.
Wyatt has had numerous solo exhibitions at museums such as MS Museum of Art, Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, Meridian Museum of Art, and Jackson Municipal Gallery. His work can be found in both corporate and private collections, including those of two former presidents and several U.S. senators. He also is a past president and founding member of the Mississippi Watercolor Society and has had paintings in the national exhibitions of the National Watercolor Society and the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic.
Open since 1999, Water’s eponymous gallery is located on the brick streets of the Olde Towne business district in Clinton, Mississippi and was recently recognized as Best Gallery in Mississippi by Mississippi Magazine. The Gallery features the catalogue of his original work and giclée prints. Following Wyatt’s belief that art is for everyone, the Gallery houses a gift shop where a variety of affordable imprinted gift items can be found, including prints, books, stationary, and apparel.
When they are not traveling, Wyatt and his wife, Kristi, reside in Clinton, just around the corner from the Gallery.

We are excited to welcome Alabama author Matt Kessler to Page & Palette!
On WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14th at 6PM, the acclaimed reporter and former Writer-in-Residence will sign and discuss his riveting new book, THE WIREGRASS: A Tale of Murder and Retribution in the Deep South. He will be discussing the book with Cori Yonge, a local journalist.
In this compelling, eye-opening account, a reporter's dogged quest to solve the murder of two teens uncovers a forgotten corner of the Deep South and the chilling web of police corruption, violence, and miscarried justice beneath its surface.
"Calling to mind the works of Robert Kolker and Patrick Radden Keefe, Kessler brings to vivid life a tiny corner of southeast Alabama in a captivating, richly reported, and deeply humane story of found families, crooked cops, ferocious loyalties, and the terrifying velocity of justice slipping away.” —Megan Abbott, New York Times bestselling author of El
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Matt Kessler is a writer from Alabama. He has reported justice, race, and equity stories in Mississippi for The Guardian, and environmental stories for The Atlantic. His radio work has been broadcast on Mississippi Public Broadcasting and Illinois Public Media. A fellow in the University of Southern California’s PhD in Creative Writing and Literature Program, he lives with his family in Birmingham. This is his first book.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In 1999, in the rural Alabama town of Ozark, the bodies of two white teenage girls, J.B. Beasley and Tracie Hawlett, were found shot in the trunk of Beasley’s car. The girls were out past curfew and celebrating Beasley’s birthday—but from there the story grew tangled, then went dark.
As months, then years, passed without answers, an eccentric cast of townspeople took it upon themselves to chase down leads. In this hardscrabble, farming region at the southern tip of the Bible Belt—a place cut off from freeways and wary of outsiders—everyone knew you couldn’t trust the cops. Their investigation was shoddy at best; at worst, it looked a lot like a cover-up.
Twenty years later, the chief of police called his childhood friend, a devout Black man and long-haul trucker named Coley McCraney, into the station. To the shock of the community, and most of all McCraney, he was arrested for the long-ago murder of two girls he didn’t seem to recognize. DNA evidence tied McCraney to the crime scene. But in a region rife with corruption, and haunted by a legacy of racist violence, was there any chance of finding the truth?
The Wiregrass is a twisting, deeply reported true-crime narrative, populated by Bible kids, white supremacists, and amateur sleuths. Unraveling the notorious Beasley-Hawlett cold case, it reveals the stunning, Southern gothic story of a region—and a nation—that cannot outrun the traumas of its past.

ABOUT THE BOOK
A swashbuckling coming-of-age saga—and Ariel’s first womb-to-tomb novel—the story follows Grace O’Malley from her childhood as a fierce tomboy, through marriage, motherhood, and her complicated navigation of her role as a leader and fighter, all with an eye toward the political machinations of English imperialism in Ireland and sharp elbows within Queen Elizabeth I’s court, perfect for fans of Diana Gabaldon, Maggie O’Farrell, and Game of Thrones. And—since it’s an Ariel Lawhon novel after all—it’s full of danger, suspense, and more than a hint of romance.
Keenly observed and fiercely written, THE PIRATE QUEEN channels the untamed beauty and harsh realities of sixteenth-century Ireland, as seen through the eyes of an unforgettable heroine who rightly became “the Pirate Queen of Ireland.”
Jeanie Thompson & Larry Mitchell -- Author Event & Music
Join us for an evening of poetry and music at Page & Palette!
On WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21st at 6PM, master poet Jeanie Thompson teams up with Grammy Award-winning musician Larry Mitchell for special music project based on her award-winning collection of verse, THE MYTH OF WATER: Go Into Your Life. Thompson's new work recasts eight poems into songs, telling the amazing story of author/activist Helen Keller and her native Alabama. This unique pairing of poetry and song captures the love, loss, and longing of Keller's experience.
Enjoy a night of joy and reflection with these talented artists at P&P!
The Myth of Water: Go Into Your Life
The Myth of Water is a cycle of thirty-four poems by award-winning Alabama poet and writer Jeanie Thompson in the voice of world-renowned Alabamian Helen Keller. In their sweep, the poems trace Keller’s metamorphosis from a native of a bucolic Alabama town to her emergence as a beloved, international figure who championed the rights of the deaf-blind worldwide.
Thompson’s artfully concatenated vignettes form a mosaic that maps the insightful mind behind the elegant and enigmatic persona Keller projected. Thompson takes readers on the journey of Keller’s life, from some of the thirty-seven countries she visited, including the British Isles, Europe, and Japan to the wellsprings of her emotional awakening and insight. The poems are paired with fascinating biographical anecdotes from Keller’s life and samplings from her writing, which infuse the work with richly-rewarding biographical detail.
The poems in The Myth of Water reveal the discerning subtlety, resiliency, and complexity of the person Thompson perceives Helen Keller to have been. Through a combination of natural intuition, manual signs, Braille alphabets, and lip reading, Keller came to grasp the revolving tapestry of the seasons and the infinite colors of human relationships.
Not a biography or a fictional retelling, The Myth of Water attempts to unlock what moved Keller to her life of service and self-examination. This is a deeply personal story of coming through—not overcoming—a double disability to a fully realized life in which a woman gives her heart to the world.
Jeanie Thompson and Larry Mitchell have been awarded a 2026 Global Music Award for The Myth of Water: Go Into Your Life in the ‘words and music’ and ‘lyrics and songwriter’ categories.

When Katy’s family stays through Hurricane Katrina, and Jo-Jo flees with her troubled mother, the storm becomes the fracture that separates their lives for decades. Jo-Jo’s world collapses further into poverty, abuse, and the traumatic murder of her mother, driving her down a path of violence. Survival hardens into obsession, and her longing for the past festers into darkness. Twenty years later, she returns to New Orleans, intent on finding the only anchor she’s ever known—only to discover that Katy was lost in the Katrina aftermath. As she absorbs yet another loss, rage replaces grief. Homicide detective Paget Ellington investigates a string of brutal murders and becomes the target of an obsessed killer. About the Book
A story of marriage, illness, and a hidden past in which the consequences of recovery and the revelations of trauma open a marriage to a new map of intimacy
In A Marriage in Startled Air, Patricia Foster shares the dramatic story of how the diagnosis of her husband’s rare cancer changed the dynamics of their marriage and opened the door to the hidden world of his childhood, revealing the seeds of trauma and childhood PTSD. In vivid, often poetic prose, Foster reflects on how the journey of recovery—and discovery—between two artists in a relatively happy marriage leads to difficult conversations about family, memory, identity, and aging. Within this unburdening, Patricia and David discover a new map of intimacy: Once the illusion of normalcy is broken, what emerges is something sweeter and deeper, as if the broken thing becomes, ironically, the healing thing.

ABOUT THE BOOK
A woman starting over. A witchy bookstore. Mountain folklore and cryptids. Divorcing my high school sweetheart after twenty years wasn’t exactly the fairy tale ending I had in mind. When Steve Thornfield came home one day and announced he wanted a “lifestyle change,” my picture-perfect life shattered, and so did I. Desperate for a fresh start, I packed everything I owned into my SUV and headed for the mountains of North Carolina. My escape plan? Buying an abandoned bookstore in a town so small it barely shows up on a map. It sounded charming on paper until I saw it in person. But with the help of a quick-witted new friend, a ruggedly handsome handyman, and a bookstore full of secrets and strange visitors, I’m learning there’s far more to this town, and to me, than I ever imagined. Magic is real. The mountains are watching. And apparently…so is something else.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Madalyn Rae is the pen name for someone who’d rather not explain to her coworkers or her mother that she writes about vampires, werewolves, and the occasional (okay, frequent) steamy scene. By day, she teaches tiny humans the magic of music, and by night, she dives into fictional worlds filled with fantasy, love, and the supernatural. Her stories are often born from vivid dreams and a wild imagination that refuses to rest. She lives along the beautiful Gulf Coast, where the sand is white, the water is warm, and the tourists are always hogging the good spots. About the Book
Why didn’t you just leave? It’s the question every survivor of domestic abuse hears―as if leaving were simple. As if love and manipulation didn’t become impossibly tangled. As if breaking free from an abusive husband didn’t also mean losing the family you’d built your entire life around. Neely Ellison escaped her emotionally distant mother by marrying into Jeffrey McMahan’s loving Southern family. But Jeffrey’s devotion slowly transforms into control, and his mother’s warmth comes with strings attached. By the time Neely discovers the truth about Jeffrey’s past―and realizes that the only thing worse than leaving is staying―she must make impossible choices. To break free, Neely must dismantle not just her marriage but everything she thought she knew about family. She must escape not just Jeffrey but her own understanding of what love should be. Set against a genteel Southern backdrop during the 1980s and 1990s, ONE ON EACH SIDE is an unflinching examination of why women stay, how trauma bonds form, and what it takes to break free―not just from an abuser, but from the patterns that made you vulnerable in the first place.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Between San Francisco and Belgian Congo Between war and silence . . . It is 1936. Mimi is in San Francisco, in a house she shares with her father and sister, writing letters to Maurice—a distant cousin she has never met. Maurice is in Belgian Congo, settling the estates of Europeans who die far from home. They have no shared memories, only paper, ink, and the weeks it takes a letter to arrive. They write. For years. Three hundred and eighty-two letters survive. "Between us, an ocean, two continents, and the stubborn mathematics of distance. Marry me, Mimi. It's all I want." They become engaged and are set to meet in Belgium in May of 1940. Then the war comes. Maurice vanishes into the Resistance—imprisoned, interrogated, forced into an irrevocable choice. At home, Mimi endures years of silence and uncertainty, learning photography—Maurice’s great passion—to see the world through his eyes while waiting for letters that never arrive. Drawn from their real correspondence, Mimi and Maurice is the story of a love written in full—and of what survives the silence.

An exquisite Arabian mare. A small boy leaving home. A young woman in France fighting to survive. The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Ride of Her Life braids a sweeping novel of love, war, empire, and the power of kindness in a world descending into darkness.
Beddou is six years old when he is sent off to apprentice far from his High Atlas village in Morocco. His mother gives him six amber beads to help him find his way home. That same month, a magnificent filly is born in Fes, in the splendor of the Sultan’s palace. For a brief, golden time, the mare belongs to the boy. But Beddou’s heart is broken when a soldier steals his horse and disappears into France just as the Great War roars to a start. Finding her seems impossible, but he vows to try.
Estelle, a young woman in France, finds a distressed Arabian mare wandering alone in the meadow behind her house. She is determined to look after this radiant creature just as tenderly as she cares for her vulnerable younger brother. But soon her world is torn apart, and she loses both the horse and her brother. She will spend the rest of the war searching for both.
Thomas is an Englishman hardened by his experience as a wartime veterinarian in France. He finds the mare and promises to protect her—and the woman who once loved her—but he doubts his own ability to keep anyone safe. As the pathways of the unforgettable mare and the boy’s desperate search intertwine, the separate strands of these strangers’ journeys converge, propelling them to make momentous choices that will change the course of their lives.

Saving America's Beaches: The Causes of and Solutions to Beach Erosion
This unique book explains where beach sand comes from, how waves are formed and how they break and move sand down the coast, how engineering works have blocked this movement and caused beach erosion, and what can be done to save beaches for future generations of Americans. A three-part prescription for healthy beaches is outlined — backing off, bypassing sand, and beach nourishment.
Scott Douglass
Over 500 great American beaches were visited by the author while developing his “prescription for saving America’s beaches” that is outlined in this book. Scott Douglass is a Professor Emeritus in the Civil, Coastal & Environmental Engineering Department of the University of South Alabama. He worked his way through college by lifeguarding on the Jersey Shore, studied beach erosion at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Coastal Engineering Research Center, conducted laboratory investigations of how waves break on beaches for his Ph.D., has designed beach nourishment projects, and has consulted on coastal engineering projects throughout the country. He has written dozens of academic papers including many on the role of engineering in beach management. He was a co-author of the Fourth National Climate Assessment and developed much of the coastal engineering guidance for the Federal Highway Administration. Douglass finds that even though we have harmed some of our beaches with poor sand management, good coastal engineering has saved many of the most popular beaches in America.

Inspired by the untold stories of Titanic survivors, Saab offers a fresh, sweeping tale of bravery and resilience. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening with one of our favorite local authors!
ABOUT THE BOOK
In 1912 aboard the RMS Titanic, Nabiha “Bea” Nohra is traveling to America to find work, eager to earn the funds necessary to afford passage for the family she left in Lebanon. On the same ship, heiress Marguerite Ashby sails home to celebrate her engagement to a dull British lord, a marriage that will secure her new-money family’s place in old New York society. But when the Titanic sinks, the two women’s paths are fused together when Bea saves Marguerite’s life and they are unexpectedly charged with the smallest survivor—a baby boy.
No one claims the infant, so the women form a committee to aid survivors and locate the baby’s next of kin. Bea works as the child’s nanny, desperate to bring her family to America before the difficulties in Lebanon overwhelm them. Meanwhile Marguerite hopes the committee’s charitable efforts will win society’s respect and render an advantageous marriage unnecessary, sparing her from marrying a man she does not love—unless her parents force her to fulfill the obligation no matter what society says. And when finding the child’s relatives proves to be no simple task, the women are soon enmeshed in deception and uncertainty as they seek to determine where the baby truly belongs.
The committee might grant the acceptance Marguerite craves, connect Bea with the stability she needs, and lead them to the baby’s relatives. But a committee helmed by an American heiress and a Lebanese nanny is hardly customary. Surviving a shipwreck is only the start. As Marguerite’s wedding looms nearer and Bea faces the increasing hardships of adjusting to her new country, they must fight for survival once more. This time, to survive New York society.

Thomas Key -- Author Event
Join us for an evening with local historian and author Thomas Key on Thursday, August 20th at 6pm in Latte Da, as he discusses Operation Ivory Soap, the remarkable true story of one of World War II's best-kept secrets.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In 1944, as the Allied forces advanced across the vast Pacific Ocean toward Japan, the US Army could not relocate the large aircraft repair depots fast enough to keep up with the front line. Thus, Operation Ivory Soap was the Army’s secret project to deploy ships capable of repairing and maintaining bombers and fighters at sea.
A specialized group of approximately 3,000 Air Corps soldiers underwent unique training for their new, nautical lifestyle. They jokingly referred to themselves as “sailjers.” The capabilities they brought to the Pacific proved vital to Allied success in World War II. These men served in Guam, Tinian, Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, but their journey began at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama. This is their story.
Thomas Key grew up in Point Clear, Alabama, just one mile south of the Grand Hotel. He spent his summers running barefoot around the property and hearing the stories of the hotel’s secret operation during World War II. In 2013, after 10 years in the Marine Corps, Key moved back to Point Clear. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Vanderbilt University and a doctorate in history from Liberty University. Thomas and his wife, Elizabeth, are raising their four children in Point Clear.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Brilyn Hollyhand has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in American political commentary at a remarkably young age. Dubbed “the internet’s youngest voice of reason”, at just 20-year-old, Brilyn has already made significant strides within the political landscape, primarily through his engagement with conservative politics and youth voter outreach.
Brilyn’s venture into politics began at the age of 11 when he founded both “The Truth Gazette” newsletter and “The Brilyn Hollyhand Show” podcast in the fourth grade, in July 2017.
By his teenage years, Brilyn had become a familiar face on national cable news networks including Fox News, CNN, ABC News, NewsNation, and Newsmax, where he provided his unique perspective on current events through the lens of Generation Z.
In 2024, Brilyn published his first book, One Generation Away: Why Now is the Time to Restore American Freedom, which quickly became recognized as a rallying cry for young conservatives and debuted at #2 on the Amazon bestsellers list. His political activism did not stop at media and literature.
Brilyn was appointed to chair the Republican National Committee’s inaugural Youth Advisory Council and served on for the 2024 election cycle, a role he embraced to directly influence and expand the GOP’s outreach to younger voters and work with Trump to achieve the greatest comeback in political history
In 2022, Brilyn earned the prestigious John Lewis National Youth Leadership Award from the National Secretaries of State Association. In 2023, he was named one of LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Visionaries to Look Out For” highlighting his role as a political prodigy and an inspiration for young individuals.
As The New York Times noted in a October 2025 profile, Brilyn Hollyhand has emerged as one of the most prominent young conservatives in America, seen by many as part of the next generation poised to carry forward Charlie Kirk’s legacy.
Brilyn Hollyhand’s journey from a fourth-grade podcast host to a nationally recognized political commentator and best-selling author illustrates a precocious understanding of politics, media, and the power of youth engagement. In his free time, you can find Brilyn on a golf course or at the lake with friends and family.
Today, Brilyn still hosts his viral Gen Z commentary show, “The Brilyn Hollyhand Show”, he started way back in elementary school, where he still boldy breaks down the day’s top stories and gives his unique perspective live from his dorm, available on all major platforms.
ABOUT THE BOOK
It's time to Make America Talk Again.
Americans have never had more ways to connect, yet we’ve never been more divided, lonely, and silent. Civil discourse—once the lifeblood of democracy—has been replaced by a fear of losing friends and family, being ridiculed on social media, getting swatted by anonymous callers, and losing your job, all because of the words you spoke.
Make America Talk Again is Brilyn Hollyhand’s roadmap to a better future.
As a Gen Z leader in the Republican Party, Hollyhand has debated on campuses nationwide and has his finger on the pulse of social media platforms that have turned his country into the Divided States of America.
Inspired by his Christian faith, the Founding Fathers, and the hardworking men and women of this great country, Hollyhand tells us where this culture of censorship and cancellation came from, why we need to reform it, and what we need to do—right now—to Make America Talk Again.
At a moment when speech has never been more threatened, and Americans have come to see each other as enemies who need to be silenced, rather than fellow countrymen and countrywomen who need to be engaged, the need to Make America Talk Again has never been more urgent.
A passionate call to arms, and an unforgettable defense of the values that made this country great, Brilyn Hollyhand’s latest book isn’t just the investigation we need to understand where America went wrong—it’s the book we need to make America greater than ever.
