LEILA OWENS MORRIS

Leila Owens Morris was born and raised in a small town in south Alabama, where her love for nature and the outdoors was nurtured. She took up golf as a youngster, often playing the course with her father and brother and hitting thousands of balls on the practice range. She attended Huntingdon College, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance and played tennis for the college. Leila later completed her master’s degree in Business Education at Auburn University, and her career has spanned the diverse fields of auditing, café ownership, and teaching. In her free time, she has continued to work on her golf game and has also enjoyed hiking, bicycling, and kayaking (taking several hiking and biking trips in and outside of the country over the years). Leila is known for her cooking and likes to entertain, often using vegetables from her backyard garden in recipes. Her love of cooking has further combined with her sense of community, as she has prepared meals for the church congregation for years and has a longstanding practice of taking meals to parishioners, friends, and neighbors. Leila additionally enjoys music and has devoted decades to singing in the church choir. Her music room at home is complete with a baby grand piano, flute, guitar, and violins, and she has recently taken up watercolor painting. In light of her creative nature, it was only natural that Leila would eventually be compelled to put to paper the countless and relatable memories and anecdotes of her childhood and beyond that have made an indelible impression on her life.
