ABOUT THE BOOK
The Book Monster is a picture book about a girl and her voracious appetite for books: Sybil isn’t in denial. Her Book Monster transformations are hardly problematic. The boy receiving a new library card hasn’t disrupted her visit at all. She loves lines. She hasn’t waited months for the book he’s unshelved. Eating the boy was a perfectly reasonable response. But, her stomach aches. Is it the boy? Guilt? Both? She could spit him out and relinquish the book, but… what if she doesn’t want to?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mariah’s love of books led to a career in education in which she could inspire the next generation of book lovers. As a former elementary and ESL teacher, Mariah now serves as the Executive Director of Auburn University’s Harris Early Learning Center and faculty in Human Development and Family Science. She received her PhD from University of Alabama at Birmingham in Early Childhood Education with a focus on supporting multilingual learners. Her husband Ryan has been her favorite person since elementary school. Together they have created two tiny book monsters. They have made their home in Birmingham, Alabama in which you can find them taking walks around the lake, playing board games, or, of course, reading.
