Join us for a Facebook live event, featuring Author Jan-Philipp Sendker and his book The Heart Remembers. It is the final novel in the contemporary Art of Hearing Heartbeats trilogy that transports readers from Burma (present-day Myanmar) to New York and concludes the story of Burmese-American lawyer, Julia Win.

Written from the alternating perspectives of Julia’s estranged son, an empathic 12-year-old named Ko Bo Bo, and her brother, U Ba, Ko Bo Bo’s uncle and caretaker, THE HEART REMEMBERS delves into Julia’s enigmatic past and the personal and political events that fractured her family. The narrative is set in motion when Ko Bo Bo discovers letters penned by U Ba about his parents’ love story, which prompts U Ba to recount the genesis of Julia’s courtship with Thar Thar, a monk and former soldier. Their romance unfolds against the uncertain backdrop of the Saffron Revolution, a series of mass protests in Myanmar in 2007 spurred by a stark increase in fuel prices and a long history of military government rule. Societal upheaval, coupled with a mysterious illness Julia develops, drives the couple apart.

Back in the present day, Ko Bo Bo hatches a plan to help his family by harnessing his acute emotional perception. Believing he can heal his mother, he sets off to find his parents and bring his family back together, no matter the odds.
