Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening is told from Carol Walls’ perspective at a crossroads in her life. One day she notices a dark-skinned man tending her neighbor’s yard. She soon discovers his name is Giles Owita and he bags groceries at the supermarket, but he is also very good at gardening. Before long Giles is transforming not only Carol’s yard, but her life as well. Though they each are seemingly quite different, a caring bond grows between them.

When Carol died just one week before it was named USA Today’s Best Book of 2014, she had not made a single promotional appearance for her book. Now, her husband Dick Wall has made over 200 appearances to promote the book’s life-affirming message.
