In our relatively affluent corner of the world, it’s easy to lose sight of the very real problem of homelessness, but hundreds of men, women and children along the Gulf Coast live unsheltered everyday.
The New York Times bestseller Same Kind of Different as Me offers a compelling and emotional look at the way homelessness touched three very different lives. Same Kind of Different as Me is the true story of a homeless man (Denver Moore), an international art dealer (Ron Hall), and Hall’s gutsy wife (Deborah), who helped the two very different men find their common humanity.
Denver was raised under modern-day, plantation-style slavery in Louisiana until he escaped in the 1960’s by hopping a train. Non-trusting, uneducated and violent, he spent another 18 years on the streets of Dallas and Fort Worth. No longer a slave, Denver’s life was still hopeless—until God moved. First came Deborah, who helped the homeless and gave of herself to all of “God’s People.” Then came her husband, Ron, a self-made millionaire accustomed to the world of Armani and Chanel. Later their lives became greatly intertwined.
After being diagnosed with cancer and facing possible death, Deborah charged her husband to rescue Denver. Same Kind of Different as Me is the emotional tale of their story where both men learn “whether we is rich or poor or something in between, this earth ain’t no final restin place. So in a way, we is all homeless-just working our way toward home.” (Denver Moore)
