In Teacakes and Afternoon Tales, twenty-four authors from across the Southern region provide thoughtful and entertaining stories about Mississippi. These stories span the spectrum of life in Mississippi, including tales about segregation, gambling in beach casinos, historical fiction and coming of age in the South.
Contributing author and Mississippi Writer Guild President, Richelle Putnam, will sign the short story collection, Saturday, October 25th from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Page & Palette Bookstore in Fairhope. Edited by award winning authors and editors, Dixon Hearne and Philip L. Levin, many of the stories in Teacakes and Afternoon Tales are award recipients. Authors include Mississippi Writer Guild Executive Director Anne McKee, Atlanta freelancer Wayne Scheer, the highly honored Betty Beamguard, Longjohner’s Mystery Series author M.L. McCann and several others.
From the hilarious opening story, “Why Queenie Can’t Go to Afternoon Tea” by Alabama resident Ruth White, through the final “Soap” by U.S. Air Force Academy professor Ross Gresham, the reader will be captivated by dozens of perspectives and memories. A follow- up anthology, Sweet Tea and Afternoon Tales is planned for 2009.
