John Cochran began playing the guitar when he was 5 years old, following his older brothers footsteps. Their home was filled with the sounds of Motown, Stax Records, The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead and music from Muscle Shoals Studio.
After working as a full time musician for several years around the coast, Cochran was offered an opportunity to study music at Faulkner State Community College on a scholarship. This led to his pursuit of a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi. While in Mississippi he played with blues musician T-Bone Pruitt.
Cochran then moved to Nashville to pursue a Masters of Music in Guitar Performance.
Prior to finishing his Graduate Work, Cochran was brought on as an Adjunct Professor of Music at MTSU.
During his time in Nashville, he was fortunate to be mentored by and play with Jack Pearson(Allman Brothers Band). Pearson and Cochran still play together regularly.
Currently, he maintains an active touring and performing schedule- playing with The Bodhi Trio, Lauren Murphy and the Psychedelics, The Johnny Hayes Band, Jesse McCraw, Redfield, Jimmy Lumpkin, Hoodoo Kitchen, Rebecca Barry, and more.
Cochran currently teaches Music courses and guitar at Coastal Alabama Community College and The University of Southern Mississippi. He has also been a Professor of Music at The University of Mobile and Middle Tennessee State.
In addition to teaching, Cochran organizes and promotes live music events for the community, with the most recent project being the Live at Five Concert Series in Fairhope.
